Mayor Dave Bing, fed up with his own corporation counsel's challenge of the financial deal meant to save Detroit's sinking finances, will fight her in court this morning in Lansing.
Lawyers from the Detroit firm of Miller Canfield, hired by Bing, are expected to file a motion to intervene against the city's top lawyer, Krystal Crittendon, people familiar with the decision told the Free Press yesterday. The motion is expected to be filed in Ingham County Circuit Court, where Crittendon has a hearing today on her request for a speedy decision on whether the consent agreement is legal. Attorneys for Gov. Rick Snyder and state Treasurer Andy Dillon are expected to argue against Crittendon's challenge.
Fitch and Moody's downgraded the city's credit rating for its general obligation bonds and pension trust. Fitch cited "the possibility that (the city) it would not make a debt service payment due on June 15."
