You can almost forgive The Guardian for cringe-worthy, ripped-from-the-publicity-package lines like: "extraordinary is exactly what [Kym] Worthy is," and you can overlook minor errors, such as suggesting Worthy took down Kwame Kilpatrick in "1998," because the essence of their story, about the Wayne County Prosecutor's work to process untested rape kits, is an important one.
The Guardian: Since 2009, 600 rape kits have been investigated by Worthy's team, a staggering 37 serial rapists have been identified and 13 cases have been brought against suspects as a direct result of Worthy's endeavours.
Four years ago, Worthy brought attention to Detroit's backlog of more than 10,000 untested rape kits sitting in the police evidence room. In June, the state allocated $4 million to help process the rape kit backlog.
