More than 100 objections have been filed against Detroit's bankruptcy and Judge Steven Rhodes will address them in a two-step process, beginning with legal challenges on Sept. 18 before hearing objections based on material facts on Oct. 23.

Detroit News: “The court further concludes that a prompt oral argument on these legal issues will promote just, speedy and efficient determination of the city’s eligibility to be a debtor,” Rhodes wrote late Monday.

An Orr spokesman was not immediately available for comment late Monday.

The judge’s order ramps up what legal experts called an already aggressive schedule for the biggest municipal bankruptcy case in U.S. history.

Bankruptcy experts say this process for handling objections is a sign that Rhodes is looking to expedite Detroit's bankruptcy case. When he filed for Chapter 9 protection, Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr said he hoped to have the bankruptcy process completed before the end of 2014.
