The federal courthouse in downtown Detroit has seen its fair share of protestors outside in recent months as a result of the city's bankruptcy proceedings.
In June, expect to see folks rallying outside, but for a different reason.
Ali Harb writes in the Arab American News that Palestinian activists plan to rally outside of the courthouse during the trial of a Palestinian American community organizer Rasmeo Odeh, who was indicted on charges of lying on her citizenship application about a conviction in an Israeli military court decades ago.
Odeh, 66, who was found guilty of "membership of an illegal organization" in Israel in 1970, the paper writes. She was convicted for being a member of the Popular Front of Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and participating in three bombings claimed by the organization, one of which targeted a marketplace, the paper reported.
She served 10 years and was released in a prison swap with Israel.
She came to the U.S. 20 years ago and now lives in Chicago. She filed her citizenship application in Detroit. She was arrested in Chicago in October and has been free on bond, the paper reported.
Supporters say the charges are political witch hunt meant to intimidate Palestinian activists.
The paper reports that supporters are also expected to sit in on the trial.
The stakes are high: If convicted, she could lose her citizenship and face up to 10 years in prison.
