An off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officer found that being a concerned citizen can be harmful to your health.

WDIV reports that the officer confronted a couple of men who he suspected were pushing a stolen van on Detroit's west side across the street from his home.

The men opened fire and he returned fire. He was hit in the forearm and wounded. WDIV reported it was unclear if the suspects were hit.

WXYZ reported that the officer was transported to the hospital and treated for a non-life threatening wound.
