It's war!

Metro Detroit has declared war on the sale of the dangerous synthetic marijuana known as Spice or K2.

This week alone, the sale of the product, which has been widely sold at gas stations and party stores, has been outlawed in Macomb and Wayne counites, Detroit and West Bloomfield.

And the Detroit Free Press reports other communities are asking retailers to pull them off the shelf.

In some communities, there have been demonstrations in front of outlets that sell the product.

The popular product has been responsible for the death of a teen in Bloomfield Township, and it's been linked to some high-profile criminal cases including the one involving Tucker Cipriano, the teen who plotted to kill his Farmington Hills family.

On another front, Michigan lawmakers are soon expected to pass a state law banning sales of the product.
