With criminal charges hanging over his head, and his credibility in question, Clinton Township Trustee Dean Reynolds was removed from five committees but kept his seat on the board Monday night, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Reynolds, a 49-year-old Democrat running for supervisor of Clinton Township, was charged last week with taking bribes to help Rizzo Environmental Services secure a contract.
Reynolds is the first to be charged in an FBI investigation focusing on Macomb County. More people are expected to be charged.
Township officials and their attorney say only the governor can unseat Reynolds from the board of trustees, Christina Hall writes. Supervisor Robert Cannon said it "makes no sense" to ask Gov. Rick Snyder to remove Reynolds since his term will be over this year.
