City Council has until Sunday to weigh in on the Belle Isle state park lease. They either have to approve the deal or develop an alternative scenario that will save the city as much ($4 million/annually) as the state park plan.

So Council decided today to hold a special work group Wednesday to work out the details. Councilman James Tate will preside over the session. Friday, following public comment, Council will decide on the issue during a special meeting.

If Council rejects the plan, they'll have seven days to finish developing their alternative plan.

If Belle Isle becomes a state park, Lansing takes over the park's operatings costs and will spend between $10-$20 million on park upgrades over the next three years.
