Convicted felon Bobby Ferguson is asking U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmunds to limit his sentence to just ten years. Prosecutors are requesting a 28-year sentence. Ferguson, who has been incarcerated since his conviction, will be sentenced on Friday for his role in the Kilpatrick Enterprise RICO crimes.
It's been a tough week for Ferguson. Prosecutors also asked for $6.9 million in restitution from the now-former city contractor and his co-conspirator, ex-mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. Ferguson's wife also filed for divorce.
Ferguson's lawyers also presented letters from family members seeking leniency.
Detroit News: In one letter, daughter Brittany Ferguson praised her father’s work ethic and impact he has had on his family.
“I never thought I would have to visit my father in jail and I especially never imagined my daughter having to visit her grandfather in jail,” Brittany Ferguson, 23, wrote. “Life isn’t fair and I’ve learned that. I really miss my dad and sometimes I cry because I can’t call him and see him whenever I like.”
You know who can see their fathers whenever they like? People with fathers who weren't convicted of nine federal felonies.
Boom.
