Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson will return to work today, his office announced Monday.

Patterson, who has been out of the office since being seriously injured in a car crash Aug. 10, plans to meet with his deputy executives and directors on the fifth floor of the county's Executive Office Building in Waterford, according to a news release from his office.

Afterward, he will address his managers, chiefs and reporters at 2:45 p.m. in the building's conference center.

"As I enter the next phase of my physical rehabilitation, I will resume my daily duties at the Executive Office Building," Patterson said in a statement. "This is where I belong."

Patterson, 73, is seeking a sixth term as county executive in next week's election. He is opposed by Democrat Kevin Howley, 53, a business owner.
