Voters in Michigan's 11th Congressional District will go to the polls today to vote participate in the selection of the GOP nominee for the contest to fill out the month or so of Thad McCotter's unfinished term that will remain after the Nov. 6 general election.
According to a Free Press editorial, "the new 11th is an illogical, misshapen and downright ugly district whose boundaries were drawn for the sole purpose of guaranteeing Republican McCotter a perspiration-free stroll to re-election."
McCotter, a five-term congressman from Livonia, quandered that gift earlier this summer when it was revealed that his staffers had incompetently forged signatures on his nominating petitions for the current election cycle (and, as it turns out, for several previous election cycles). Four of those staffers now face criminal charges arising from the botched fraud.
