Well, the painful search for a new police chief begins.
The Detroit Free Press reports that the candidates will be asked a very personal question: Have you ever had a relationship with a subordinate?
The city charter approved by voters, requires that a search firm must conduct the search. The Police Commission Board will narrow down a list for Bing to choose from. His pick is subject to approval from the city council.
Godbee abruptly retired after a police officer very publicly disclosed that she and the chief had been carrying on an affair. Shortly after, a woman claimed she had sex with the chief in exchange for a promotion.
Godbee was the third chief in four years, a situation which prompted some critics to complain that the department lacks consistency to deal with the monstrous crime problem.
The Detroit News reports that the commission has to be upfront with prospective candidates and tell them it could be a very short term job if a new mayor is elected in 2013 and decides to install a new chief.
Chester Logan, an assistant chief, was named interim police chief last week.
