In a lead editorial cheering U.S. approval of a new Detroit River crossing as "one of the most important days in the history of the Windsor region," The Windsor Star pokes at its unrelenting opponent -- Ambassador Bridge owner Matty Moroun.

Friday’s announcement won’t stop the billionaire owner of the bridge from proceeding with litigation aimed at stopping the bridge. In one action, Moroun even claims a "perpetual and exclusive franchise right" to operate the crossing free of competition from another span.

But the new bridge isn’t about politics or self-interest. It’s about doing what’s best for the hard-working families on both sides of the border. . . .

The project will provide economic security and open up new trade opportunities.
