Newly minted Wayne County Executive Warren Evans has tapped former chief Wayne County Circuit Judge Richard Kaufman as his second in command.
Eric Lawrence of the Detroit Free Press reports the Wayne County Commission on Thursday unanimously approved Richard Kaufman as Wayne County's deputy CEO. Kaufman will start April 1 and earn $143,329.
"As second-in-command, Mr. Kaufman is a key addition to my administration, and I am confident that his wealth of knowledge and experience is vital as we face the county's financial crisis," Evans said in a press release.
The county faces some daunting challenges including the possibility that it could run out of money next year.
Kaufman has been working in the Farmington Hills law firm of Zausmer, Kaufman, August & Caldwell, P.C.
