Free Press columnist Tom Walsh wasn't impressed with Gov. Rick Snyder's State of the State address that called for a $1.2 billion upgrade of roads and bridges in Michigan.

He says the speech failed to ease folks' doubts about his leadership.

He writes:

Repair the roads is this year's big reinvention idea? Really?

Sigh.

The less generous, more easily irked among us may be asking, "Has Gov. Snyder been living in the same state as me the past six weeks?"

He writes that the speech was pretty dry and failed to mention the very obvious: Right-to-work.

He writes:

The legislation passed. Snyder signed it. He owns it now, and if he really believes "more and better jobs" are the state's top priority, he needs to talk candidly about all of the state's business climate issues -- even emotional things like right-to-work, not just the tidy, measurable stuff that you can chart on your dashboard.
