Wayne County Circuit Judge Wade McCree toned it down Tuesday under cross examination in his judicial misconduct hearing, Elisha Anderson reports in the Free Press.

McCree often gave one-word answers such as “yes” or “no,” without elaborating, seldom used his hands to talk, and his voice lacked the inflection he used last week while reading text messages at the Washtenaw County Courthouse in Ann Arbor.

Much of his testimony centered on an affair he had with Geniene La’Shay Mott, a complaining witness in a child support case before him.

McCree, who is accused of misconduct in office by the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission, said Mott lived in his deceased mother’s home in Ann Arbor because he couldn’t afford a hotel with a kitchen and living quarters like she wanted.

“I couldn’t afford to put her up,” he said. “I don’t have money like that, and so this was a compromise of sorts.”

He had given her $6,000 to cover bills and expenses throughout the course of the affair, which took place last year, McCree said.
