This weekend marks the fourth annual Marche Du Nain Rouge, an event in the Cass Corridor that banishes a devious red dwarf who has been stirring up trouble since Detroit's earliest days. Revelers attempt to shoo the Nain Rouge by scaring the crap out of him in wild costumes.

Why? A previous Nain Rouge participant wearing a tiny, unadorned pirate hat said it best. "Detroit needs fun."

The march starts at 1 p.m. Sunday at Traffic Jam and Snug, on Canfield at Second. This year's event involves even more Nain than ever, with a couple dozen local businesses offering Nain-themed deals -- that's double last year's involvement. Drink Nain Rouge cocktails at Green Dot or Seva or paint your nails Rouge red at Textures by Nerfertiti. Your dog can get a discounted manicure, too, at Canine to Five.

Rougers can also run in costume before walking in costume. The first ever Nain Rouge 5K takes place Sunday at 11 a.m.
