Who says there's no chance for a comeback from serious setbacks in American politics? Not Bill Clinton . . . or Tom Barrow . . . or Elliot Spitzer . . . or Anthony Weiner.

Voters recalled Janice Daniels nine months ago by a margin of by a 52-48 percent.

Or Janice Daniels, recalled last November as mayor of Troy after less than a year in office.

She submitted candidacy petitions Tuesday to run for City Council there this fall, Timothy Rath reports at Troy Patch.

She's among 11 candidates, including two current members, running for three seats.

Daniels was the center of controversy for nearly all of her short term in office after remarks she made as a private citizen on Facebook containing an anti-gay slur went viral in December 2011.

City council meetings remained vitriolic for months afterwards when Daniels voted against plans for the Troy Transit Center, argued with former council member and award recipient Mary Kerwin, and wrote a lengthy position paper some viewed as personally attacking city employees.
