Detroiters love to hear that someone from out of town is impressed when they come here. They also like to hear that Washington might help out the city more.
On Friday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, who came to Detroit to show administration's support for the struggling city, said he's impressed with Detroit’s blight removal program, according to Brent Snavely of the Detroit Free Press.
That was nice.
But what was nicer was that he said the administration would be open to giving more federal assistance if the state and city apply for more funding.
Lew toured Detroit’s Marygrove community Thursday, where the first home was torn down under a blight removal program supported, in part, by federal dollars, the Freep reported.
“What I saw yesterday afternoon and this morning is real evidence that that partnership is working,” Lew said. “We will continue to look for opportunities where we can partner in those kinds of ways.”
