Is this the new Gov. Rick Snyder?
Chad Livengood of the Detroit News reports that Snyder's allies have formed a new, not-for-profit civic fund, Moving Michigan Forward, where the donors are known.
It's a big change from before when Snyder ran the NERD Fund and refused to disclose allies who donated. He came under fire from the public for keeping the donors secret, and he eventually closed down the fund.
The new transparency comes at a time when Snyder is mounting a bid for re-election for a second term. He'll officially kick off his campaign on Monday, the News reports.
The Moving Michigan Forward fund reported raising $123,400 in the fourth quarter of 2013, with Troy-based HTC Global Services Inc. making the largest single donation of $50,000, the News reported. Jackson National Life Insurance Co. and Consumers Energy each donated $25,000; the DeVos family’s Alticor Inc. contributed $20,000; the Michigan Beer and Wine Wholesalers Association donated $2,940; and Snyder’s chief of staff, Dennis Muchmore, donated $500. -- Allan Lengel
