Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, who is credited with helping Donald Trump win the presidency, will speak Wednesday night at Andiamo Banquet and Event Center in Warren to mark the one-year anniversary of the presidential election.
The event is sold out and is expected to draw protestors, reports The Macomb Daily.
Organizers say they’ve been assured Warren police will allow everyone to have their say, but will step in at the first sign of violence.
“The Warren Police Department is ready,” political strategist Jamie Roe tells the paper, which says:
There have been calls demanding Bannon not be allowed to speak due to his hard line on immigration and trade policies, but Andiamo owner Joe Vicari has said the venue is “open to all viewpoints in the community.”
The pre-speech fireworks are expected to be a showdown between Pro-Trump and anti-Trump political forces in Macomb County, which veteran political observer and retired Macomb Daily political writer Chad Selewski called “Michigan’s most politically potent county.”
The event is part of the Macomb County Republican Party’s Unity Dinner.
