Detroit Mayor Dave Bing is puzzled and dissapointed so far with some things Emergency Manager Kevin Orr has done, or not done.
In an interview with Free Press columnist Tom Walsh, he said:
- “I think Kevyn probably takes his lead more from Lansing than he does me at this point. I think he spends an inordinate amount of time with Lansing." He said Orr needs to listen to his advice, though he certainly doesn't have to follow it.
- Bing estimated that he spends about two hours a week with Orr: “I don’t think that’s enough. I think I can give him good advice. It’s up to him whether he accepts or rejects it."
- He's surprised he hasn't moved quicker to fix Detroit's balance sheet issues with long-term debt and pension liabilities. “But in 30 days I haven’t seen much change there. If there’s a plan being developed, I don’t know anything about it,” he said.
- He's surprised Orr and the governor’s team has moved so quick to find a new police chief, saying: "That's not the highest thing on my agenda.”
