Robert Snell of the Detroit New reports former City Councilwoman Sharon McPhail, who once called Kwame Kilpatrick a thug and suggested he had someone rig her electric chair massager to shock her, is a witness for his defense that starts as early as Thursday in the City Hall corruption trial.
McPhail was subpoenaed by the Kilpatrick defense team, and her selection sheds light on the type of witnesses the former mayor may call in hopes of avoiding a 20-year prison sentence in the federal racketeering case.
"I'd rather not, but I won't ignore a subpoena," McPhail told The Detroit News. "I've put up with a lot being associated with his administration."
McPhail told Snell that Kilpatrick is in trouble because he "bucked the system," challenging the power structure of Detroit and giving a large percentage of city contracts to Detroiters.
