On the same day that a federal judge is set to rule on the matter,  Secretary of State Ruth Johnson concluded Friday that that veteran Rep. John Conyers still lacks enough legit signatures to be on the ballot Aug. 5.

Christine Ferretti and Darren Nichols of the Detroit News reported that that Johnson decided that the decision by Wayne County Clerk Cathy Garrett to block Conyers from the ballot was correct. Two people who circulated petitions for Conyers were not registered voters as required by law.

A federal judge is expected to issue a ruling this afternoon on the constitutionality of Michigan's law about the registered voters.
