In some ways, it's a battle between fresh fruit and sausage. In other ways, it's really about money.

Paul Beshouri of Curbed Detroit reports that the Kowalski Sausage Co. wants land in Hamtramck that a  nonprofit, Hamtown Farms, is using to grow crops. The community farm has a permit to grow things on the city land.

But the sausage company on Holbrook Street wants to turn it into a parking lot and had offered the city $3,000.

Hamtramck emergency manager Cathy Square decided to pit the nonprofit against the sausage company in a bidding war for the land, Curbed reports.

Sound fair?

Square says it's the "only fair thing to do," according to Beshouri, who writes: "If you're a fan of Hamtown Farms, they're raising money for the November 21 auction through Indiegogo."  -- Allan Lengel
