Free Press columnist Rochelle Riley wants to know with all that's being done to save city, including the so called grand bargain, why isn't there more focus on the children.
She writes:
Oh, if only the children of Detroit were pieces of art.
If only the citizenry would rise up and fight for their salvation because to lose them would be to lose the city's heart.
Oh, if only someone would write a check to cover the special costs of educating children whose very circumstances are obstacles to their success.
She writes that there is no unified plan to better educate children in the city and make sure they're prepared for college.
She goes on to write:
But even as city and state officials hammer out a plan to keep Detroit growing stronger, no one wants to talk about the children.
