It's a no go for U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers.
The Republican Congressman from Michigan said Friday he won't run for U.S. Senate in 2014, and will instead seek re-election in the House, where he appears to be a rising star, according to The Detroit News.
Rogers was considered a top Republican candidate. The former FBi agent had been endorsed by the FBI Agents Association to replace outgoing FBI Director Robert Mueller.
However, President Obama has picked former Justice Department official James Comey to replace Mueller, who has his 10-year term extended two years.
“I am truly humbled by the encouragement I have had to run for the United States Senate,” Rogers said in an email Friday to supporters. “After careful and thorough deliberation and long talks with my family, friends and supporters, I have determined that the best way for me to continue to have a direct impact for my constituents and the nation is to remain in the House of Representatives. For me, the significance and depth of the impact I can make on my constituents' behalf far outweighs the perceived importance of any title I might hold.”
