Pure Detroit, the granddaddy of Detroit-centric merchandise, plans to open a store in its most unusual location: Belle Isle.
And even more distinctively, the precise spot will be inside the aquarium.
According to Amy Amy Haimerl in Crain's Detroit Business, Pure Detroit will have a nook inside the Belle Isle Aquarium starting this Saturday, Feb. 1. It will be open during aquarium hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
A portion of all sales will go to the Belle Isle Conservancy, which helped bring Pure Detroit into the aquarium. Customers also can donate to the conservancy and aquarium at the shop.
Founded in 1998, Pure Detroit was the first of what it is now several stores that sell artwork, clothes books, souvenirs and other curios related to Detroit. Pure Detroit has stores in the Guardian Building, Fisher Building and Renaissance Center.
