Protestors plan to gather Monday morning at Campus Martius in the heart of downtown Detroit to protest a fundraiser that was held Friday in a Dan Gilbert building for GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump, Motor City Muckraker reports.
The rally will be at 11:30 p.m. to show anger over Gilbert's decision to facilitate the event with Trump at the Chrysler House at Fort and Griswold, Steve Neaving of Motor City Muckraker reports.
"The fact that a person of Gilbert’s stature in Detroit can openly support a racist who is being shunned by his own party for his extremism is unacceptable,” says a statement from community activists Rev. Bill Wylie-Kellermann and Elena Herrada, Neavling writes. “It is an insult to all Detroiters. We must respond.”
During the primary campaign, Gilbert contributed $1.25 million to a super PAC supporting New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who dropped out of the primary race and endorsed Trump.
