A man suspected of raping a 15-year-old girl who was on her way to Henry Ford High School in northwest Detroit, is in custody, Detroit Police say.

The victim had provided a description of the man who raped her at gunpoint Wednesday morning as she walked to school, George Hunter of The Detroit News reports.

"We're pretty sure he's the guy responsible," Deputy Chief Steve Dolunt said during a Friday afternoon media conference at police headquarters, according to the News.  "We want to allay the fears of the community that we believe we have caught him, but we're still reminding people to be diligent and pay attention to their surroundings."

There were reports that the man showed up after the rape for a vigil for the girl and a friend of hers who was killed while trying to cross 8 Mile Road the day before the rape.
