Salvador Salort-Pons
Mel Brooks in the movie "History of the World, Part I," says fondly: "It's GOOD to be The KING."
True. But it's not so bad being the director of the Detroit Institute of Arts, either.
Jennifer Chambers of the Detroit News reports that Salvador Salort-Pons will assume the post of director on Thursday under a five-year contract and a starting salary of $375,000 a year, with increases over time.
He is the former DIA curator of European art and executive director of collection strategies and information.
The News reports that his contract will jump to $475,000 in the fifth year.
The pay is less than what his predecessor, Graham Beal, earned.
In 2012, the board of directors increased Beal's salary from $455,453 to $514,000. Plus, he received bonuses.
