With City Council President Charles Pugh in parts unknown and no longer on the payroll, the rest of Council is moving forward with plans to select a new president to fill out the remainder of their term. The plan is to hold a vote next week.

However, give the uncertainty about Pugh's status, Councilwoman Brenda Jones wants legal advice.

Detroit News: Jones, who requested the legal opinion about how to proceed with replacing Pugh, said she’s still concerned with the move and a potential lawsuit arising.

“He was elected by the people, by the charter, that indicated the person with the highest vote would be the president,” Jones said. “He has not resigned to this date. I still have a concern of just stripping him from his presidency. Yes, I move very cautiously when I’m sitting at that table.”

Moving cautiously doesn't seem like the worst course of action here because, really, there seems to be no ceiling for weirdness on this saga.
