The squeaky-voiced Mike Tyson, who has had more ups and downs that the Dow Jones Industrial Average, came to the Fox Theater Saturday night without his gloves.
Adam Graham writes in The Detroit News that he appeared on stage in a Spike Lee-directed authobiographical show dubbed "Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth." The one-man production is on a national tour that heads next week to Miami, Atlanta and two other Southern cities.
Graham writes that Tyson "was rambling and unpolished, marked by occasional moments of poignancy."
"If it wasn't always the truth per se, it was at least Tyson's version of things. The show was messy, humorous and sometimes touching, tracing Tyson's story from the gutter to heavyweight champ, with plenty of attention given to his trials and tribulations outside the ring."
In a Free Press review, Mike Burdenell says Tyspon gave "a stunningly truthful performance, which had those there cheering him at times." The writer uses the words disturbing, revealing, sad and uplifting to describe a show that's "always compelling."
