Michigan's Republican National Committeeman Dave Agema stood by a controversial anti-gay social media posting Thursday and said it is "a joke" that some GOP members are calling for his resignation, Marissa Schultz reports in the Detroit News.
Twenty-one Republican activists released a letter late Wednesday urging Agema, a former state representative, to resign his RNC position after posting a copy of an online article on his Facebook page Wednesday titled "Everyone Should Know These Statistics on Homosexuals." The post was deleted later Wednesday.
The article contained a string of claims about gay promiscuity, child molestation and linked the "filthy lifestyle" to rising health care costs with references to studies dating to the 1970s.
The article also had a quote that "Homosexuals account for half the murders in large cities."
