Victor Mercado, who is part of the indictment against former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, has filed documents in federal court saying he largely agrees with the government's racketeering conspiracy case against Kilpatrick, Kilpatrick's father and the former mayor's friend Bobby Ferguson, according to Robert Snell of the Detroit News.

"Mercado's defense in fact prejudices the co-defendants, as he will be largely agreeing with the government's case against the co-defendants, and may supplement their case by revealing unexplored avenues of investigation," according to the filing by Mercado's lawyer, Martin Crandall.

Mercado could essentially serve as a second prosecutor, Crandall wrote in the filing, "bringing in evidence the government may not use in their case in chief that establishes an even broader conspiracy than the government alleges."
