Fox 2's M.L. Elrick is going after Wayne County Commissioner Burton Leland on a residency issue.
Elrick reports that Leland has a home in East Lansing and a co-op in Detroit, but it appears he's really living in East Lansing. In fact, Elrick reports that he has sent his two children to public school in East Lansing.
Elrick raises questions as to whether Leland is actually qualified to sit on the Wayne County Commission if his real residence is in East Lansing.
Leland didn't seem happy to see Elrick on his front lawn in East Lansing.
Leland told Elrick that his commission job, which pays about $60,000 a year, is a part time gig. As for his residency issue, he said: "Talk to my constituents, see how they feel about it."
Elrick reported that a federal judge on Tuesday ruled he did not hear enough evidence to remove Leland, but that he would re-examine the matter if Leland's challenger, Monique Baker McCormick, brought forth more witnesses. -- Allan Lengel
