Kwame Dsc00607

The issue of race came up in jury selection, it popped up during trial and now it rears its head again as the jury in the Kwame Kilpatrick case deliberates.

WWJ Legal Analyst Charlie Langton spoke with Daniel Ferguson, who is Kilpatrick’s brother-in-law and the cousin of co-defendant Bobby Ferguson’s cousin — and he said the trial is all about race.

“You talk about race, come on man, that’s what it is,” Ferguson told Langton. ”If Kwame Kilpatrick was white and his name was Kent Masters Kensington, he would not be on trial.”

“This case was the media’s case before it became the feds’ case,” he said. ”My whole thing about this is fairness and the man did not get a fair shake, I believe. And there’s a large segment of the city that believes the same thing. Just think about all the negative publicity in this case before the trial came up. The propaganda campaign that’s been running in this city for the last 10 years has been heavily influenced to get a conviction against Kwame Kilpatrick, Bobby Ferguson and Bernard Kilpatrick.”

The jury began deliberating on Tuesday.
