A shackled 21-year-old  student had a brief hearing in Detroit federal court on charges of online stalking during stints with two 2012 presidential campaigns.

Robert Snell shares colorful details in The Detroit News:

Adam Savader, 21, of Great Neck, N.Y., is charged with cyber-stalking and Internet extortion. The FBI says he obtained nude photos of women by hacking into online accounts and threatened to release the pictures unless they sent him more photos. . . .

The political science student at State University of New York at Farmingdale wore leg shackles and a green Wayne County Jail uniform to court. While sitting on a bench in court, Savader tried chatting up a heavily tattooed inmate who yawned and ignored him.

Savader's lawyer was unable to attend his client's initial appearance, so the hearing will be delayed until a later date.

One alleged victim is a Michigan college student, so the case was transferred here from New York, Snell writes.

Savader, who worked for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan last year, is held without bond and undergoing a court-authorized psychological examination, according to The News.
