Jayru Campbell, the Detroit Cass Tech football star charged with slamming a school security officer into the floor, appeared in a Detroit courtroom this morning and waived his preliminary examination.
Elisha Anderson reports in the Free Press that Campbell, 17, was bound over to Wayne County Circuit Court to stand trial on charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, a felony, and aggravated assault, a misdemeanor.
Campbell said little during the four-minute hearing. District Court Judge Alicia Jones-Coleman asked him several questions about waiving the hearing.
Campbell, who is free on bond, appeared in a white button-down shirt, blue tie and black pants.
“Appreciate the tie. Appreciate the shirt and the collar,” Jone-Coleman said. “Maintain it.”
