Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan announced Thursday he plans to visit Detroit next week -- and he wants to help rebuild the city.
The Chicago-based Nation of Islam said Farrakhan plans to visit Thursday and deliver a speech Friday. The location is not disclosed.
In the statement, Farrakhan says he plans to look at the condition of Detroit and consider buying properties to help in revitalization efforts. He says there's a need for help in the schools and city government.
The Nation of Islam was founded in Detroit in the 1930s.
