Oh, this just got really good.
Horace Sheffield, pastor, dubious charter school operator, and Kwame Kilpatrick stalwart, wants to replace John Conyers in Congress. He made it clear during an appearance on WJR's Frank Beckmann show -- popular with the largely Democratic, largely African-American voters in the 13th District -- that this is a bare-knuckled, knock-down fight.
Detroit News: He was more blunt in an interview earlier Thursday with WJR’s Frank Beckmann: “The congressman is not all there.”
“I’ve come to learn that other people other than the congressperson actually make decisions for the interests of our district,” Sheffield told The News, implying Conyers’ aides are calling the shots. “Even when he makes decisions, they override him.”
Conyers’ spokesman said the congressman declined to comment.
It's obviously hard to verify Sheffield's allegations one way or the other. However, we could clear this all up if Rep. Conyers, 84, scheduled a news conference in his district and spent an hour or so answering questions from reporters.
If the congressman can handle that, then it's hard to say he's not in control of his mental faculties.
Until something like that happens . . .
