Most people haven't heard of Joel Landy, a 60-year-old Midtown resident who has lived there for decades.

But he's helping turn Midtown around.

Fox2's Amy Lange reports that over the years he's bought up 27 properties, including historic buildings, and helped convert them into apartments and restaurants.

He took the old Burton International School, a Detroit public school, and turned it into a 140-seat movie theater, which has the latest technology including 4,000 watts of six-channel DOLBY sound, she reports.

He also bought the old Scott Mansion, which he's turning into apartments and he renovated the Hotel Addison on Woodward Avenue, whose tenants include the trendy Atlas Global Bistro.
