Krystal Crittendon says Michigan owes Detroit a stack of cash.

The city of Detroit might be broke, but that hasn't stopped it from spending a whole lot of money on consultants to get it out of its mess.

The Detroit Free Press reports the city has agreed to spend nearly $14 million since December on consultants.

Specifically, the city has contracted with nine firms to provide a range of financial and legal services to help the city overcome its staggering deficit and costly long-term liabilities, according to the Freep's Joe Guillen.

The paper reports that than $3 million is for hiring emergency manager Kevyn Orr’s former law firm.

Guillen writes:

While Detroit’s turnaround team continues to expand, City Council members are questioning the costs and wondering exactly who is in charge of the consultants.
