Gov. Rick Snyder

What a difference several months can make.

Not very long ago, Gov. Rick Snyder's poll numbers for a re-election bid in 2014 were looking pretty lowly. He was coming off passage of right-to-work legislation, which left a sour taste with many voters, particularly those in organized labor.

But lately, he's pushed through an expansion of Medicaid and gotten involved in the restructuring of Detroit's finances, two moves that have likely bolstered support among the electorate.

Paul Egan of the Detroit Free Press reports that a poll by EPIC-MRA of Lansing show Snyder  ahead of his likely opponent at this time, Democrat Mark Schauer, by 44 to 36 percent.

The poll also shows the two top candidates in the U.S. Senate race, Rep. Gary Peters, a Democrat,  and Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, a Republican, at a statistical tie, with Peters at 38 percent and Land at 37.

As for the governor's numbers, WXYZ pollster Bernie Porn remarks:

The Medicaid expansion approval in the Michigan legislature appeals to Democrats and Independents while many conservative outstate voters have a positive impression of how the Governor is handling Detroit.
