Johns Hopkins pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson said Friday he is “absolutely” prepared to step down as commencement speaker for the Baltimore university’s medical school after controversial remarks he made this week about gay marriage.

Madeleine Morgenstern reports at The Blaze, a national news site, that Carson apologized if he caused offense by comparing gay relationships with pedophilia and bestiality during a March 26 appearance on Fox News.

“Marriage is between a man and a woman,” Carson said on “Hannity.” “It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality -- it doesn’t matter what they are, they don’t get to change the definition.”
