The hype was on like a big sporting event.
The talking heads on the Sunday news talk shows repeatedly mentioned that Donald Trump would be delivering an important speech on economic policy at the Detroit Economic Club in Detroit on Monday.
On Monday, came game day. An enthusiastic crowd of more than 1,500 gathered at Cobo Center along with protestors outside, who were far less excited about the prospect of Trump in the Motown. There was also plenty local and national media.
Trump was introduced by his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, who said how he had become fast friends with Trump, and as if he had known him all his life.
Periodically, through the speech, an anti-Trump protestor would stand up and start shouting something. Security people would immediately rush over and escort them out, often to cheers from the crowd, which enthusiastically approved of the ejection.
The speech came off with relative ease.
Now, comes media commentary on how Trump did and what impact the message will have on the polls and the campaign . Ahh, the sport of politics.
