Sportswriter Terry Foster, feeling fanciful this sunny spring weekend in a CBS Detroit post, speculates about a Pistons replacement for canned coach Lawrence Frank.
Terry FosterLet’s say the Pistons job came down to a two-horse race and President Joe Dumars was deciding between his former Bad Boys teammate Tom Izzo or one of the best coaches in the United States. My choice would be Bill Laimbeer. . . .
He is a better professional coach. He has experience as an NBA assistant and he has shown he can head up his own program in the WNBA. He played in the league and knows the league better.
Foster, a Detroit News sports columnist, explains why Izzo doesn't seem right:
Izzo is a college coach and I do not trust he can make that transition in time to make the Pistons a winner. . . . He should stay at MSU. He is a better college coach and he is still building a legacy.
That said, Foster tiptoes back from the end of his limb by noting: "My guess is none of these two will get the job."
