Will Detroit run out of cash as early as Friday?
Mayor Dave Bing was to meet with the City Council this morning to try to sort out the lawsuit that threatens the consent agreement with the state that was created to avoid a calamitous municipal bankruptcy.
But Bing may not find enough allies on the nine-member council. It appears several of them support city Law Department chief Krystal Crittendon's lawsuit challenging the consent deal as an illegal violation of Detroit's city charter.
On Sunday, Bing said Crittendon's suit has exacerbated a crisis, and that pressuring her to drop the suit or even firing her would be among the topics that would be brought up today.
"I believe that she's probably going to stick to her guns, and that puts us into a very difficult situation," Bing said Sunday after attending a graduation ceremony for Detroit Cristo Rey High School.
