She never was charged in the City Hall corruption case, but federal prosecutors say Kwame Kilpatrick's former lover and chief of staff Christine Beatty was a co-conspirator.

That first-time disclosure is in a court filing by prosecutors, countering Kilpatrick's arguments that the government used erroneous information to calculate his recommended sentence. The government asks that Kilpatrick get at least 28 years when he's sentenced today at 10 a.m. by U.S. District Judge Nancy G. Edmunds, who has shown little love for the ex-mayor.

Wednesday's filing, reported by Robert Snell of The Detroit News, says:

He was an elected and high-ranking public official, and he was also a leader of the criminal scheme, supervising and directing coconspirators in both the private sector (like Ferguson, Bernard Kilpatrick, Karl Kado, Jon Rutherford, and Emma Bell) and the public sector (like Derrick Miller, Victor Mercado, and Christine Beatty). So once again, Kilpatrick’s guideline range has been properly increased to reflect his increased culpability."

Interestingly, the other folks mentioned in the filing as co-conspirators -- including government employees Derrick Miller and Victor Mercado -- were indicted by the feds. Beatty was not.  Go figure.

Snell writes:

Previously, Beatty’s defense lawyer, Jeffrey Morganroth, would not reveal whether Beatty was granted immunity in exchange for talking with the FBI and a federal grand jury.
