Emergency manager Kevynn Orr appointed John Hill, the Washington D.C. municipal finance expert, as Detroit's new chief financial officer Thursday.
Hill replaces Jim Bonsall, who resigned last month after asking if he could "shoot someone in a hoodie" during Angels' Night.
John Hill is a certified public accountant and the former CEO of Federal City Council, and D.C.-based civic group. He also headed up D.C.'s Financial Control Board which was put in place to dig the city out of a $700 million hole.
Mayor-elect Mike Duggan, who was present for the announcement, said:
“In interviewing Mr. Hill, I was very impressed with his successful history in Washington, D.C., and with his commitment to the importance of citizen input in the decision-making process. I strongly encouraged him to accept this position and I'm very pleased he has agreed to serve as Detroit’s CFO.”
